Yahoo's new site "Shine"

Here is a link from CNN.com.

Yahoo is creating a new website that is designed for females ages 25-54. This website is dealing with everything and anything that a female of this age group would want to know about. But the article says that it's Yahoo's way of getting more money from advertisers and for the advertisers to reach this audience.
I think that the idea of Yahoo creating a whole website for one specific age group is rediculous. But I also believe that the age group of females that Yahoo is trying to connect with needs this information and will find this website satisfying.
Females ages 25-54 need to know this stuff, even if it's only a way for Yahoo to get more money, this will help females in the long run. It's well worth it!

Google goes dark

Here is a link from CNET.com.

Google.com decided to go dark for Earth Hour, which occurred at 8:00pm on Saturday March 29th. The entire screen on Google was a black color and only the Google letter were visible. Earth Hour is a time when people around the world were suppose to turn off their lights to save energy. Being the college student that I am, I didn't even know about this special hour, so I have no idea that i was suppose to turn off my lights. Hearing special little events like this is hard to hear about, and even on websites like Google, there was no explanation of why they were going dark.

Homeless People getting numbers from Google

Here is an article from Farhad Manjoo's Machinist.

Google is giving out phone numbers to homeless people in San Francisco. Homeless people can sign up at a local shelter to get a phone number that will never expire. Mayor Gavin Newsom said that these numbers will help people who are awaiting medical test results or to hear from a job opportunity.
I am glad that Google is doing this for the people of San Francisco. Even if this is a publicity stunt or a way to get Google's name in the media again, this is a great thing that the company is going. The number of homeless people around the United States is large, but giving this group of people a chance to make their lives easier is a good thing. Free phone numbers is something that they will look back on and be greatful. But why San Francisco?
The homeless people of San Francisco have not done too much to deserve this chance from Google, or have they? The people of San Francisco have been mean too homeless people, and the city ranks number 11 on the 20 Meanest Cities for Homeless People by MSNBC. Homelessness in San Francisco has been a problem for over two decades now, and it doesn't seem to be ending. Any help that the homeless people can get is well deserved and needed. Hopefully, more help will be given to these people!

More AOL Websites

Here is a link to an article from TechCrunch.

America Online (better known as AOL) is getting more online websites as a way to attract people to their site. AOL is sitting in fourth place in the information battle, right behind Google, Yahoo and Microsoft. Soon, AOL will launch 12 new websites, and in the next year, will launch 20 to 30 websites. From what I understand from this article is that AOL is only launching these websites to get money from advertising companies. I wonder why AOL has to spend money to launch more websites instead of just making the websites that they have now more information friendly!
I am not sure how many people use AOL, but I am proud to say that I do NOT use AOL. I am able to get along just fine without it, and I believe that if AOL is making new websites to attract people to it, it seems that other people are getting along without AOL as well.
